The local chapters of the three oldest college educated Black Greek organizations Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity have united in support of the Haitian Relief Efforts.
On Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Food Dance Caf, 401 E. Michigan Avenue in Kalamazoo the organizations will present a check to Vicki Eichstaedt, Community Relations Director for the Greater Kalamazoo Chapter of the American Red Cross for Haiti Relief. This presentation will take place at 1:00 pm.
“I am aware that each organization’s National Leadership has swiftly developed methods by which members can contribute to the Haitian Relief Effort; however, in addition to our National Contributions, we felt it important to do something locally to encourage giving in the greater Kalamazoo Community,” said Reuquiyah Saunders, President of the Kalamazoo Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. In conjunction with the philanthropic outreach to the Haitian Relief Effort, the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will also commemorate its annual Founder’s Day, celebrating 102 years of community service.
The participating Black Greek organizations collectively have over three hundred years of proven community service and urge others within our community to support the Haitian Relief Effort.
