Phi Beta Sigma International President Jimmy Hammock Honored by Alcorn State University
On Saturday, May 11, 2013 Alcorn State University will bestow Honorable President Jimmy Hammock the President’s Honorarii Alcornite Societatis Award. This award is given in recognition of an individual’s “distinguished service within their profession, discipline or other human endeavor”. Other recipients of this award include Cynthia M.A. Butler-McIntyre, the 24th National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; community servant Frenchye Harper Latham; renowned attorney and leader Milton C. Davis and lifelong Lorman, Mississippi resident Jesse Morris, Jr.
“The Alcorn family is pleased to honor and recognize the distinguished service of these individuals”, said Alcorn State University President Christopher Brown. “As our graduates envision their future footpaths, they will be enthused by the ways these men and women have demonstrated the knowledge and character emblematic of Alcornites with a spirit of excellence”.
On Friday, May 10th at 5:00 pm, the brothers of Alpha Zeta Chapter of Alcorn State University will host a special reception honoring President Jimmy Hammock at the Clinton Bristow, Jr. Dining Room – Gold Room. All Brothers in the central and southwest Mississippi areas are encouraged to join the President for this distinguished honor.
President Hammock will be given this honor at Alcorn’s 142nd Commencement Convocation on May 11 at 8:30 a.m. in the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex. The Reverend Omarosa Manigault, former star of the “Apprentice” and fiancée of the late Oscar-nominated star of “The Green Mile”, Michael Clarke Duncan will attend Alcorn’s 2013 Commencement Convocation. Alcorn announced in March that Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, the nation’s largest civil rights organization, will deliver the 142nd Commencement Convocation remarks. The Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees will be presented to Mr. Morial during the ceremony.
