Delta Soror Betty Garrett retires as Assistant Dean of Louisiana Technical College

After serving 33 years at the Louisiana Technical College, Bastrop campus, Assistant Dean Betty Garrett has retired. Garrett began her career at the college as a classroom teacher in 1977. She worked as a teacher, guidance counselor and lastly, assistant dean.
“It has been an honor to work closely with Betty,” said Noreen Smith, Regional Director Louisiana Technical College, Region A. “She was very dedicated to the school and students. I appreciate all her hard work. She has been there from the beginning. and has done a wonderful job.”
Due to Garrett’s retiring, Loe Dunn has been appointed interim assistant dean, effective Jan. 20.
Dunn began her career at the vo-tech school in August 1980. She was hired to teach shorthand and English in the business department. Through the years, she has served as business department instructor, coordinator, a recruiter for the school and administrator for the airport campus. Dunn said she was very passionate about vo-technical education.
She is a native of Collinston, the daughter of the late James and Armeties Massey, graduate of Delta High School and Northeast Louisiana University. Dunn has one son, Eian and is a member of the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Collinston. She has been an elected member of the Morehouse Parish School Board since January 1991 and is now serving as president of the board. She was a sales associate for Bob Spencer Realty from 1987 to 1997, chairperson for MEDCO from 2005-2007, is on the Morehouse Community Medical Center Board, member of Delta Sigma Theta-Monroe Metro chapter, a national public service sorority, and she completed the LCTCS Leadership Development Institute from the University of New Orleans 2005-2006.
“I am looking forward to working with Loe on a daily basis,” said Smith. “She will serve the students and staff in a fair manner.”
