Prattville is home to Zeta Phi Beta’s newest chapter, Psi Lambda Zeta

Members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. were installed as officers of its newest chapter in the River Region Area. Psi Lambda Zeta Chapter was chartered on June 2 at Zeta Phi Beta’s international headquarters in Washington, D.C. Prattville was chosen as the site for the new chapter because of its growth, beauty and small-town charm.
The Chartering Celebration was held at the Prattville Boys and Girls Club on Saturday, June 12th, which the group has chosen as one of its service projects. Psi Lambda Zeta’s objective is to work within the Prattville-Autauga County area by fostering the sorority’s ideals of service, charity, scholarship, civic and cultural endeavors, sisterhood and finer womanhood. These ideals are reflected in the sorority’s international programs for which its members and auxiliary groups provide hours of voluntary service to staff community outreach programs, fund scholarships, support organized charities and promote legislation for social and civic change.
“Our goals and objectives are to make a difference in Prattville and surrounding areas through our community service outreach program – Z-HOPE (Zetas Helping Other People Excel) through mind, body and spirit,” said Angier Johnson-Gunn, President. By holding on to their traditions and continuing to stand on their foundation, the members of Psi Lambda Zeta Chapter not only desire to constantly better themselves, but moreover to improve the lives of others and continue to be exam
ples of finer womanhood. In addition to partnering with Prattville Boys and Girls Club, Psi Lambda Zeta will be accepting applications for its youth and Amicae auxiliaries during the summer.
The chartering members and officers were installed by Dr. Constance Hendricks, South Central Region Director and Mrs. Vivian Marvray, Alabama State Director of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Officers are President, Angier Johnson-Gunn; First Vice President, Zella’Ques Brown-Loman; Second Vice President, Ardrinnia Bradley; Secretary, LaTonya Duncan; Assistant Secretary, Alexandra Branham; Treasurer, Sharron Dunn-Gibson; Financial Secretary, Betty S. Reed; Correspondence Secretary, Christine Moore; Parliamentarian, Eugenia Ricks, Custodian, Shirley Toston; Reporter, Kimbley Brantley and Chaplain, Minister Bernice Stewart.
Community leaders in attendance were Representative and Mrs. Paul Beckman of Alabama House of Representatives, District 88; Councilman Willie L. Wood and Mrs. Sheila Morrisette, Mayor Jim Byard’s Office – City of Prattville; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Douglas, Jr., Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Clubs. Greetings and well wishes were extended by members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta Sororities. Ms. Kennita Allen rendered music for the ceremony. The Sigma Beta Club of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity served as hosts for the event.
