Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Celebrates Military Appreciation Week With A $20,000 Donation Toward Women Veterans ROCK Empowerment Programs
USNewswire/ — Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, a leading women’s service organization, presented Women Veterans ROCK with a $20,000 donation during their annual Military Appreciation Week that took place from Nov. 7 through Nov 12. The donation, presented during a ceremony in the Fort Belvoir ( Virginia) community will support funding for housing, educational and financial opportunities for women veterans.Deborah Harmon Pugh, Women Veterans ROCK national campaign chair, also recognized Zeta International President Mary Breaux Wright as one of the 2016 Leaders and Legends Honorees of the Year during the ceremony. Wright received accolades for her unwavering commitment to community service and advocating for the rights of women.
“Our women veterans deserve the upmost respect for their faithful service to our country,” said Zeta International President Wright. “It is our pleasure to advocate for the crucial work that Women Veterans ROCK performs to transition our heroes from military service to civic and community leadership,” Wright added.This year’s commemoration included a worship service at the historic Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia, and a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The week concluded with Zeta Days of Service in which Zeta chapters in the U.S. and abroad provided assistance and recognition to veterans.In Nov. 2013, Zeta celebrated its inaugural Military Appreciation Week and established an enduring partnership with Women Veterans ROCK in support of The Women Veterans Civic Leadership Institute in Jan. 2015. The weeklong celebration is led by Zeta’s Military Advisory Board under the advisement of Maj. Natasha Sunday Clarke.
