Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority volunteers with AC40 Food Drive
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. joined with other Pan-Hellenic Council Organizations to continue service initiatives in supporting the United We Serve Initiative, which kicked off the nationwide “Summer Service Initiative on June 22.
Members of the local chapter, Iota Chi Omega Chapter in Fort Wayne, volunteered to work with AC4O in a Food Drive for the Community Food Bank. The food drive was organized by AC4O at three Scott’s locations on July 11 and July 12. Members of Iota Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. volunteered to work at two of the three sites on July 11. The food drive was conducted at Scott’s Coventry, Dupont and Georgetown Square. Three trucks were donated by Penske Leasing on Lima Road to help move the food..
Due to the effort of a small group of AC4O volunteers-Bob Vega, Liz Scott, Jack Morrris, Carrie Morris, Bill Lankford, Sherry Emerson, Craig Hanford, Becca and Anna Marie Behn, Libby Mizzell, and Hyland and Marie Plimpton along with Melissa Fisher with teen volunteers and AKA’s- more than 3,000 items of dry goods, non perishable food and paper products was collected and delivered to Community Harvest Food Bank.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., National President Barbara A. McKenzie, requested that all chapters continue service projects throughout the summer as the 81- day service initiatives is a unique opportunity for Alpha Kappa Alpha to continue the sorority’s initiatives for services.
