Progressive Moves: Kappa Frater joins morning newscast
Columbus, GA- Veteran news anchor John Lyles has joined WRBL-TV as co-anchor of the station’s morning newscasts starting Tuesday, October 27th.
Lyles joins Kristina Privette and Senior Meteorologist Kurt Schmitz on the anchor desk for the station’s two-hour newscast that airs Monday-Friday, beginning at 5 a.m. Eastern/4 a.m. Central.
“It is truly a blessing to be able to serve my home town as a WRBL-TV News Anchor,” said Lyles. “Public service has been my life for more than two decades and I look forward to continuing to serve the local community.”
Lyles’s television career spans more than a decade including stops as news anchor at WTVM-TV in Columbus, Bureau Chief for WLOS-TV in Asheville, North Carolina, and sports anchor at WBTW-TV in Florence, South Carolina.

In addition to his work in television, Lyles also worked in education for more than a decade having recently served as assistant superintendent for the Liberty County School System.
Lyles has also been involved in the community having worked with the Boys & Girls Club, United Way, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, The College Fund, Junior Golf Program, and Kappa Alpha Psi Inc.
Lyles graduated from Kendrick High School in Columbus, earned a B.A. in Communications from Columbus State University, and a M.S. in Business Management from Troy University.
