AKA Soror Angela Fisher Hall, named Associate Director of Birmingham Public Library
The Birmingham Public Library is pleased to announce Angela Fisher Hall has been named Associate Director, replacing Irene S. “Renee” Blalock, who was named Director in June.
Hall comes to the Library from the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI), where she served as Vice President of Publications and Special Projects. Hall was hired by BCRI in 1993 as Assistant Archivist, and in 1996 she was named Director of Education, establishing many of BCRI’s ongoing programs including the annual Dr. King Birthday Celebration, Juneteenth Culture Fest, Birmingham Pledge Teen Conference and Kwanzaa Celebration. In 2001, she became Executive Assistant to the President and CEO, where she coordinated BCRI’s Transformative Justice Conferences and the annual Fred L. Shuttlesworth Human Rights Awards Dinner. She guided BCRI to earn accreditation by the American Association of Museums in 2005. About her new appointment, BCRI’s President and CEO Lawrence J. Pijeaux, Jr. said, “Angela has been with the Institute since its early beginnings and has contributed greatly to our many achievements. She is talented, focused on giving her very best to each endeavor, and committed to team building. Angela has the support of her BCRI family and, with her in this new position, we all look forward to building even stronger collaborations with the Birmingham Public Library.”
Hall received a B.A. from Birmingham-Southern College (AL) and a Master of Library Service (M.L.S.) from the University of Alabama. Prior to her tenure with BCRI, she worked for nine years with the Birmingham Public Library and spent two years as an Assistant Professor/Reference Librarian at Spring Hill College in Mobile (AL). She is member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; The Links, Incorporated (Magic City Chapter); the President’s Advisory Council for Birmingham-Southern College, and Leadership Birmingham. She is a past Director-At-Large with the Southeastern Museums Conference, and in 1999 she completed the Museum Management Institute program sponsored by the Getty Leadership Institute for Museum Management.
As Associate Director for BPL, Hall will work with senior staff and the board to prepare the Library’s annual budget, manage personnel, oversee programming, and develop Library policies. The Associate Director represents the Library to the public and ensures that the best possible library resources and services are provided to the citizens of Birmingham.
It is fitting that Angela is returning to BPL, because she began a career of dedicated service to the Birmingham community here,” said Director Renee Blalock. “The Board and staff are thrilled that Angela has decided to come home.”
She will begin on December 7.
