Mu Tau Omega Chapter of AKA awards 10 scholarships to Class of 2015 high school graduates
The Mu Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. recently presented 10 graduating high school seniors with $1,000 scholarships during a luncheon at the B.N. Mabra Center in Talladega.
The 2015 Susan Wilson Jackson, Mildred Maxwell and Juanita B. Strickland Memorial Scholarship recipients were each recognized and presented a plaque as a memento of the occasion.
The guest speaker was Minister Theoangelo Perkins, mayor of Harpersville, who presented the message “The Keys to Success.”
Perkins’ message encouraged and challenged the recipients to work hard to “be all that they can be” so that any goals they have set for their future can be accomplished.
Prior to the scholarship luncheon, each student was acknowledged by a sorority member at his or her awards day celebration or graduation ceremony.
The recipients include Alexis McKinney, Talladega High School; Diandria Fluker, Munford High School; Raven Barber, Pell City High School; Kaneesha Sawyer, Childersburg High School; and Evelyn Fuller, Winterboro High School; as recipients of the Susan Wilson Jackson Memorial Scholarship for females only. Jaylon McGhee, Sylacauga High School; Joshua Gaston, Lincoln High School; Antonio Gary, Talladega County Central High School; and Marquelius Greene, B.B. Comer Memorial High School; were recipients of the Mildred Maxwell Memorial Scholarship for males only. Tariah Reynolds was the recipient of the Juanita B. Strickland Memorial Scholarship, for a male or female whose attendance will only be at Talladega College.
Mu Tau Omega Chapter officials said they will continue to strive to meet the needs of all mankind. One way, they said, is the support and continuous effort to invest in the lives and futures of our children. Plans and details are being put in place now for the 2016 scholarship awards.
