James L. Walls Jr. (2 Beta Omega 99) was recently reelected as mayor of District Heights, Md.
Walls, 32, beat former Mayor Carol D. Johnson with over 70 percent of the vote.
His positive campaign focused on economic development, jobs and public safety. Walls became a city commissioner in 2003 and mayor-at-large in 2006. He is the youngest mayor and city commissioner in the city’s history.
“This shows younger brothers that they too can be leaders and decision makers in their community regardless of their age and experience,” he said.
Walls, among his mayoral duties, is also president of the World Conference of Mayors and chairman of its tourism committee. He is also involved with the National Conference of Black Mayors, National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials and the National League of Mayors. He is also the past president of the Maryland Conference of Black Mayors.
Walls is currently a member of Psi Omega (Baltimore County, Md.).
