Iota Phi Theta Partners with INROADS to Feed the Hungry
The Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Minneapolis Alumni chapter partnered with interns from INROADS to support the Minneapolis based charity, “Feed My Starving Children” on Saturday, July, 28th as a part of the INROADS National Day of Service. Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Christian nonprofit that provides nutritionally complete meals for starving, malnourished and hungry people in nearly 70 countries around the world.
The local Iota chapter’s Community Service Coordinator, Charles Hall, was instrumental in getting the Fraternity involved in the event. Hall said, “I’ve been aware of Feed My Starving Children for quite some time. I was extremely gratified to see the Fraternity and INROADS work together on this worthy endeavor.” INROADS is the signature national community service initiative of Iota Phi Theta and local chapters of the Fraternity partner with INROADS throughout the nation.
More than 50 INROADS interns as well as the entire Iota Phi Theta local chapter were present at the FMSC facility to hand-pack dehydrated meals. The MannaPack™ Rice formula consists of fortified rice, soy, and vegetable ingredients, designed by food scientists to restore malnourished children to full health. Meals are funded by donors and packed by volunteers. At Feed My Starving Children packing sites, volunteers hand-pack the meals, and they’re shipped to missions and humanitarian agencies working around the world. The meals packed on Saturday are scheduled to be sent to Swaziland on August 13th.
Participation in the INROADS National Day of Service is another in a series of activities by Iota Phi Theta support the national partnership between the two organizations. INROADS is an organization whose mission is to develop and place talented underserved youth in business and industry, and prepare them for corporate and community leadership. INROADS National Day of Service is one of the largest initiatives of its type and engages students from more than 300 colleges and universities nationwide who are Interns with more than 200 INROADS Corporate and Government Partners.
Iota Phi Theta is a Historically Black, national social-service fraternity whose objective is “The development and perpetuation of Scholarship, Leadership, Citizenship, Fidelity and Brotherhood among men.” The Fraternity’s motto is, “Building a Tradition, Not resting Upon One.” Founded in Baltimore at Morgan State University on September 19, 1963, Iota Phi Theta consists over 230 chapters and over 30,000 members throughout the nation.
