Omega Frater Jan Bailey, dies at 67
Jan M. Bailey, 67, who had been a program analyst in the D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development, died Dec. 15 at his home in Washington after a heart attack.
Mr. Bailey’s career in city government began in 1977 with the old Department of Economic Development, where he worked on revitalization programs for various District neighborhoods.
In 1983, he began a 16-year career in the Office of Business and Economic Development as a program manager in the field operations unit. He joined the Department of Housing and Community Development in 1999.
Jan Morton Bailey was a native of Salisbury, Md., and a 1966 graduate of Morgan State University in Baltimore, where he was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
His memberships included several African American community groups, and he was a past board member at radio station WPFW (89.3 FM) in the District.
His marriage to Judy Bailey ended in divorce. Survivors include two children, Chaka Bailey of Alexandria and Nierere Bailey-Estrada of Cuba; five sisters; and one brother.
