Omegas vs. Sigmas basketball game raises funds for Bibb Co. Schools

Its a far cry from the NBA playoffs, but it was a charity basketball game here in Central Georgia to raise support for Bibb County public schools.

The alumni chapters of Phi Beta Sigma and Omega Psi Phi fraternities challenged one another to a basketball grudge match at Northeast High School Saturday afternoon.

The two teams decided to duke it out on the court and donate the proceeds to a school in the Bibb County school system.

Tickets, concessions and t-shirts were also sold, in an effort to serve the community.

Greg Brown, of Phi Beta Sigma said,”the score doesn’t reflect what actually went on in the basketball game, but it was a worthy cause to come out and showcase how greek letter organizations can come together under one roof.”

Vernard Hodges, of Omega Psi Phi said,”education is the key, without education neither organization could be successful in our various professions.”

The benefit raised more than $600 in the first match up between the two fraternities.

The Omegas won this game 86-41. They plan on continuing the friendly rivalry in the future.
