Phi Beta Sigma National Foundation seeks volunteers
I’m hopeful this email arrives at time you are doing well. This is a “Call to Action” from the Phi Beta Sigma National Foundation, Inc.
This communication comes to you now because of a very urgent need that requires immediate action on your part, support for scholarships.
Before more is stated about scholarships, please be advised that on December 30, 2009, the Phi Beta Sigma National Foundation, Inc., Board of Directors held elections. I am really excited and energized to work with the board in a new role to advance the mission of the foundation. Moreover, I am particularly happy to help generate more funding opportunities and support for scholarships and other educational initiatives.
We know that the need for scholarship opportunities has remained high even before the economy took a turn downward. Many college students receiving scholarships have been able to enroll, but have not been able to sustain their attendance because of the lack of funding for their second, third and even fourth year. The foundation has as one of its major goals to help provide needed funding to sustain the educational quest of those needing assistance. We need your support and here is how.
The first area of support that the PBS National Foundation is asking you for is service. We need dedicated Brothers with education as their main interest to join with us now. We have 5 strategic areas of operation (Program Development, Fund Development, Volunteer Development, Board Development, and Administration and Operations) where we need strategic volunteer leaders. Please read and respond immediately. The need is great and the time is now for you to answer this call to action on behalf of one of the founding principles of Phi Beta Sigma, Scholarship, and the national program of Education. We will also be asking you and others for donations, gifts, and grants to build our pool of financial resources for scholarships. But first, we need to increase our level of effectiveness and efficiency through the use of strategic volunteers.
What are strategic volunteers? These are Brothers who fit any of the following:
- Have a strong desire to volunteer their time to advance the foundation’s mission through the support of scholarship and education within their resident state by accepting a leadership role for one of our 5 strategic areas of operation.
- Is NOT aspiring to be a candidate for office within the fraternity at any level during the next 24 months.
- Has experience working with or serving on non-profit boards.
- Is employed or has been employed with a national service organization which seeks donations and grants from the public and private sector and/or one which uses a volunteer base to support a cause.
- Will contribute financially (large or small) to the PBS National Foundation annually.
- Has recently retired and is available to give back to the community by way of time through volunteer service.
- Wants the PBS National Foundation, Inc. to be successful in providing financial assistance to youth and adults by way of scholarships and educational opportunities.
- Has excellent organizational skills to manage projects and/or people.
- Has not been an active member in the Fraternity in years but is now willing to give service by helping the PBS National Foundation.
If you fit one, some, or all of the above criteria, please provide a type written bio and/or resume with contact information by April 1, 2010. You can submit via email to paulgriffin32@gmail.com. You can also use the U.S. Postal Service, Fed Express, or United Parcel Service. Please forward to Paul Griffin,1232 Regents Park Court, Desoto, Texas, 75115.
We will have a minimum of 7-10 states (at least one within each region of the fraternity) fully staffed by May 30, 2010. We will be holding a national volunteer planning meeting during this summer with all that are selected to serve. Your acceptance makes you eligible to serve as a member of the advisory board of the PBS National Foundation.
Brothers, my continued service to humanity remains strong. Many of you supported numerous initiatives advanced during my tenure as President. I am asking you to join with me once again, along with other members of the Foundation’s board to support this major educational initiative. I am specifically challenging those of you who have never served in elected or appointed office in the Fraternity, at any level, to step up and get involved with the PBS National Foundation in a leadership role. This is an opportunity to be a part of great things that will happen in providing educational opportunities to those in need. Again, join us to put ideas into action and start making a difference in the lives of many.
Thanks in advance for answering this “Call to Action” from the Phi Beta Sigma National Foundation, Inc.
Fraternally,
Paul L. Griffin, Jr.
Chairman of the Board
