Source

Members of America Reads Mississippi will gather across the state today on the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss to promote “Read Across America Day.”

Public officials, retired teachers and librarians, community leaders, foster and grandparents and others will be reading to children at 89 locations across the state.

Among the locations in Jackson are:
Davis Magnet Elementary. Sarah Campbell, a Jackson author of children’s books, will read to two kindergarten classes and two first grade classes from 9 a.m. until 10:20 a.m.

Campbell has a special connection to Dr. Seuss – her recently published children’s book “Wolfsnail: A Backyard Predator” has been named a 2009 Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Book by the American Library Association.

Van Winkle Elementary. Mississippi College students will read their favorite Dr. Seuss books to students at 9 a.m.

Lee Elementary School. The cafeteria will start the day by serving “Green Eggs and Ham” for breakfast. Celebrity readers will begin reading to students at 8 a.m. and include retired teachers, members of the Mississippi Association of Educators and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.

Read Across America Day is sponsored by the National Education Association.
