Gamma Theta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho helps feed a multitude for Thanksgiving
Every year, Gamma Theta Sigma Chapter selects a few families to bless with a meal for Thanksgiving Day. This year, the sorority decided to make a larger impact by blessing the “House that Love Built” with a monetary donation to Mary’s Pantry. “The timing was perfect because the donation will be doubled thanks to two donors who committed to match donations to help the Ronald McDonald House raise $150,000 for Mary’s Pantry Endowment Fund by matching every dollar that is donated up to $75,000,” officials said.
Mary’s Pantry provides families with a cooked meal every evening and offers a “help yourself” kitchen that families are welcome to use as their own. There is food and drink in the fridge, desserts and frozen foods in the freezer, canned goods in the cabinets, and every kitchen utensil needed. Serving 26 families per day, the Ronald McDonald House helps families with sick children focus more on the care of their child than the day to day needs like sleeping quarters and meals.
Mary’s Pantry is supported by the community with donations of snacks, cereals and canned goods. The Ronald McDonald House, however, has to purchase the more essential and nutritious items to create a balanced meal: meats, sandwich meat, milk, butter, eggs and supplies to make frozen dinners out of leftovers. Contributions to Mary’s Pantry Endowment Fund makes these purchases possible.
