BROOKLYN, NY, December 10, 2012 –Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., New York State Chapters: Sigma Kappa Zeta (Brooklyn, NY) and Phi Zeta Zeta (Queens, NY) in conjunction with FEMA, invite all New Yorkers to party with a purpose. The Hurricane Sandy Relief Mixer is scheduled for December 11, 2012 and will take place at Brooklyn’s Rustik Tavern, located at 471 DeKalb Avenue. Hurricane Sandy was one of the most catastrophic and devastating natural disasters in the history of New York State. The effects of the storm left many displaced, hungry and in desperate need of assistance. New York State Director, Shanell Robinson, speaking on the sorority’s motivation to help states: “When tragic events occur, New Yorkers have always shown their benevolence, as well as their capacity to bond together by lending a helping hand to those in need. This storm profoundly affected all of us, either directly or indirectly. One of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.’s founding principles is service. Therefore, we could not ignore our implicit duty to assist our community during this difficult time. Many of our events embody that core principle and are driven by our programmatic thrust, Zetas Helping Other People Excel (Z-HOPE). We recognize that a strong community is a necessary component to building a strong future.” Her thoughts were resoundingly echoed by Sigma Kappa Zeta’s Community Service Chair, Mychelle Edwards, who added: “The ladies of Zeta Phi Beta continue to support the resilience of the amazing State of New York by galvanizing on behalf of those who suffered at the hands of Hurricane Sandy.”

Desired donations include, but are not limited to: cleaning supplies, school supplies, toys, feminine products, tools, batteries, water, new underwear and socks, slippers, baby diapers, etc. In addition to donated items, monetary donations will also be accepted at on site.
