Alpha Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. will hold its Biennial Finer Womanhood Celebration Sunday, March 14 at 2 p.m. at the Washington Chapel AME Church Parish House, 2508 Old Montgomery Road, Tuskegee.
Zeta Phi Beta designated the last week of Black History Month and the entire month of March (Women’s History Month), as the time for Finer Womanhood celebrations. Zeta Chapters across the country hold some type of public program in recognition of this national observance. Several local community women of distinction will be honored during Tuskegee’s celebration.
Attending members and guests will hear speaker, Tonya Terry, News Anchor Woman of Channel 12, WSFA during the celebration. She will focus her message on the celebration theme: “Women Networking to Render World-Class Service.”
Terry came home to Central Alabama in September, 2000 to join the team of anchors on one of the top-rated morning shows in the country, WSFA 12’s TODAY IN ALABAMA. She also anchors WSFA 12 NEWS AT NOON.
Prior to coming to WSFA 12 News, Terry spent five years in Huntsville where she worked as a news anchor and reporter at both the ABC and CBS affiliates. Terry has also worked at television and radio stations in Troy, Dothan and Enterprise.
Terry majored in broadcast journalism at Troy University and hasn’t looked back since.
She serves on several boards including Alabama Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy and the Alabama Arthritis Foundation.
Terry has three boys, Ryan, Reggie and A.J., and volunteers a lot of her time, so don’t be surprised to see her at a school, church, football game or other community events.
The public is invited to make a $25 ticket reservation early and plan to join the sorority for the celebration. For ticket reservations and further information, please contact: Senora Moore, Chapter President (727-3066); Celebration Coordinator Janice Maxwell (727-0077); or Elaine C. Harrington, Reporter (727-7798).
