Zeta Soror Edna Taylor-Williams, dies at 76

Edna Jean Taylor Williams, 76, peacefully entered rest to join her Heavenly Savior on Saturday, March 6, 2010, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Williams had an active life, exemplifying strong, yet compassionate leadership skills as a registered public health nurse — serving the Halifax County and adjacent areas for 30 years. She also served tirelessly and faithfully contributing hours educating and training women who had a strong desire to become licensed nursing assistants. Her love for nursing and people blessed her with many friends both near and far. In addition, Mrs. Williams completed the necessary requirements to become a licensed funeral director along with her husband, James Lynwood Williams Sr., for more than 40 years. Collectively they owned and operated J.L. Williams and Son Funeral Home in Enfield, along with their son, James L. Williams Jr., until December 2006.
A member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church for approximately 50 years, she served dutifully as choir member and president of choir and deaconess board. She also chaired with the floral ministry, missionary circle and church leadership team.
Survivors include three devoted children, Jean Lynnette Williams, of Rockville, Md., James Lynwood Williams Jr., of Enfield, and Yolanda Taylor Williams, of Rocky Mount; two grandchildren, Samantha Joy Harris and Jordan Bryce Harris, of Rocky Mount; one sister, Peggy Louise Miller (Frank), of Summerfield; and one brother, Col. Kenneth H. Taylor, retired, (Amie), of Springboro, Ohio.
A public viewing will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m., today, March 9, at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 25525 Highway 561, Enfield. A privately held ceremony for the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Epsilon Gamma Zeta Chapter, will follow from 5:30 to 6 pm. A celebration of life will conclude with a wake and additional visitation from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, at the church, with the Rev. Lexter West, pastor, officiating.
