Zeta Soror Louise Irby, dies at 72

Louise Frances Irby was born in New Orleans, La. December 4, 1937, the last of four siblings, born to William Oswald and Florence Gaspard. Her parents and siblings William, Nathaniel and Glenda preceded her in death. Reared and educated in New Orleans, Louise was a graduate of Clark High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Dillard University where she was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. There she met her future husband of 47 years, Joseph Irby. She taught English in New Orleans, LA and Sumter, SC for several years.

As the wife of an Air Force Officer they were on the move for 20 years. She gave birth to their only child, Michael Francois, in Germany and later moved to Biloxi, MS; New Orleans, LA; San Bernardino, CA and San Antonio, TX. For three decades she was a Professional Real Estate agent in the offices of Guy Chipman, John Flournoy, and Norwest Real Estate. The hallmark of her life was her unselfish love and devotion to family.

Her special love, wisdom and integrity will always be cherished by her husband Joe, son Michael and daughter-in-law Amber, her three granddaughters Elli, Esa, and Larkin, brother-in-law A. Dean Irby and sisters-in-law Mary Gilbert, Shirley Gaspard and Jean Gaspard; nieces Lynette and Sherijon; nephews Chauncey, William, Glen, Elijah, Brandon, Shaun; and a host of cousins and friends too numerous to mention. She confirmed her faith at 14 in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church of New Orleans, LA and continued to express her deep and abiding love for Jesus up to her fading breaths of life.

Viewing, reception and rosary will be held at Mission Park Chapel North from 6-9 pm on Sunday March 7, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am on Monday March 8, 2010 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Memorial Cemetery. The Family would like to thank all her family and friends for their kindness, consideration and generosity.
