Progressive Profile: AKA Soror Meredith Suttles

Meredith Suttles is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, a graduate of the University of Michigan, and a professional performing artist. She currently serves as the Institutional Giving Officer at Theatre Communications Group (TCG) in New York City. Some of her favorite performing roles include Chiffon in Little Shop of Horrors, Fastrada inPippin and Evilene in The Wiz. Meredith has also appeared in numerous commercials seen nationwide.
Meredith has an extensive combined 10+ year background in Creative and Performing Arts in the areas of performance, development, planning, and fundraising. She joined TCG in 2013 and is responsible for managing TCG’s fundraising and relationships with foundations, corporations, and government entities. Prior to her role at TCG, Meredith served as the Director of Institutional Giving for the New York City Opera.
Recently Meredith has been accepted into the EmcArts Arts Leaders as Cultural Innovators (ALACI) Fellowship Program. Launching in January 2016, the 18-month program will engage 12 rising leaders of color from New York City. It is designed to strengthen the skills and capacity of arts leaders of color in facilitating adaptive processes within their organizations and their communities. With this opportunity, she intends to develop her work within TCG as a whole but more specifically within the organizations Theatre’s of Color Initiative which seeks to engage these theatre’s in identifying their unique assets and needs. It is her hope that it will allow her to assist TCG in not only recognizing problems but actively practicing solutions. She believes that “It will take us working together to challenge traditional silos and divisions not only in the arts but in our culture and larger communities.
